Background

The first London Technology Fund (LTF) could invest in a series of tranches alongside other investors, contributing from £50,000 up to a maximum of £1.5m in a single company from its own resources - resulting in a total investment from LTF and co-investors ranging from £100,000 to over £10m. LTF II was launched to invest private money with a broader remit. It does not require co-investors, although in many cases co-investors may be appropriate. It invests at any stage in companies in the tech, media and telecoms sectors.

Primary investment objective

The LTF I was established to target the gap in funding for technology companies at the earliest stage of their development. However, it operated within various parameters, which included rules relating to 'State Aid', and an important aspect of these rules is the requirement to invest on a commercial basis and alongside other investors. We were also required to have the creation of capital growth and realisation of capital gains as our primary investment objective.

The LTF II has been raised from private sources and has a simple objective - profit maximisation, focusing on the funding needs of European companies and the opportunities for them to work with Chinese companies to the mutual benefit of both.
